Upon registration, a participant has the opportunity to request accommodations via email (info@behavioral health Dallas) or phone call (214-383-8145), which will trigger the committee to acquire any additional accommodations. Presentations will include both visual and auditory components such that a participant can follow along with slides provided or listen to the speaker, or both. Should a participant need additional accommodations, BHD will consider these accommodations on a case by case basis and will not hesitate to seek outside consultation and support to meet reasonable accommodations requested.
For in-person presentations, our building is ADA compliant, therefore appropriate accommodations are in place to ensure accessible means of egress. Additional ADA requirements include, but are not limited to, physical accessibility components, such as ramps, elevators, accessible parking and restrooms, and wheelchair space.Additionally, if accommodations were requested upon registration, either an ASL interpreter or appropriate audio-visual aids, such as assisted listening systems or remote microphone systems, will be provided. BHD will comply with all legal and ethical responsibilities to be non-discriminatory in promotional activities, program content and in the treatment of program participants. The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards will be the responsibility of the Education Chair in consultation with the members of the continuing education committee, the BHD Ethics Chairperson, Margaret Vadiee, PhD, and the BHD Diversity Chairperson, Nyaz Didehbani, PhD.
While BHD goes to great lengths to assure fair treatment for all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, there could be occasional issues which come to the attention of the convention staff which require intervention and/or action on the part of the convention staff or an officer of BHD. This procedural description serves as a guideline for handling such grievances. Our Grievance Policy and Procedures will be available on our website to promote accessibility.
When a participant, either orally or in written format, files a grievance and expects action on the complaint, the following actions will be taken:
If the grievance concerns a speaker, the content presented by the speaker, or the style of presentation, the individual filing the grievance will be asked to put their comments in written format. The CE Chair, Katie Sardone, PhD, will then pass on the comments to the speaker, assuring the confidentiality of the grieved individual.
If the grievance concerns a workshop offering, its content, level of presentation, or the facilities in which the workshop was offered, the convention chair will mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If the participant requests action, the convention chair will:attempt to move the participant to another workshop or
provide a credit for a subsequent year's workshop or
provide a partial or full refund of the workshop fee.
Actions 2 and 3 will require a written note, documenting the grievance, for record keeping purposes. The note need not be signed by the grieved individual.
If the grievance concerns BHD CE program, in a specific regard, the CE Chair (Katie Sardone) will attempt to arbitrate. If the grievance concerns CE Chair and Instructor, Katie Sardone, PhD, the following contact will attempt to arbitrate.
